As the responsible stewards of public funds, the Department of Finance partners to ensure value for money in the delivery of programs and services for Yukoners. In its capacity as a central agency, the department works with all areas of government in the creation of their annual departmental budgets and in processing operational accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions. The Department of Finance serves as the territory's statistical body and develops the territorial budget, corresponding supplementary budgets and Public Accounts for the territory. It is also responsible for negotiating, coordinating and representing Yukon on inter-governmental financial matters with other jurisdictions.

The Office of the Comptroller, within the Department of Finance, provides a central service to the Government of Yukon by maintaining the financial management and reporting framework for departments, government corporations and executive decision makers. The services culminate in the production and delivery of the annual public accounts to the Legislative Assembly, providing transparency and accountability to the public.
The Senior Policy Advisor is responsible for undertaking the development, analysis, review, evaluation and implementation of relevant legislation, policies, programs and processes through the appropriate approval processes. This position leads or participates in various inter-departmental committees, and also supports the branch's delivery of training programs to ensure government employees are aware of their financial management responsibilities.
