As the responsible stewards of public funds, the Department of Finance partners to ensure value for money in the delivery of programs and services for Yukoners. The Department of Finance serves as the territory's statistical body and develops the territorial budget, corresponding supplementary budgets, and Public Accounts for the territory. It is also responsible for negotiating, coordinating, and representing Yukon on inter-governmental financial matters with other jurisdictions. In its capacity as a central agency, the department works with all areas of government in the creation of their annual departmental budgets and in processing operational accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.

The Financial Systems Branch is responsible for the overall configuration, support, security, integrity, on-going development, and central operation of the Yukon government's corporate financial system (CFS). The CFS is an interconnected collection of customized and custom-developed software, such as the main corporate financial accounting system, the data warehouse, the contract front end system, the corporate budgeting system, the tax/revenue services system, and the signing authority system. These systems and applications are crucial to the operation of the government as they allow for the ordering of goods and services, payment of vendors and clients, receipt, and processing of payments to the government, as well as facilitate the production of the Public Accounts each year.

The Department of Finance is seeking an accomplished professional that will play a hands-on role in providing corporate leadership and direction in the formulation, development, and implementation of strategies for corporate financial management business processes and practices.

Our ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to present complex ideas to leadership and business teams, as well as to coach and mentor team members and support individual and team development. In this role you will be responsible for and actively participate in the design, development, implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and evaluation of all corporate financial management information systems. and projects for the Government of Yukon. You will develop and implement strategic objectives for the FMIS team, provide expert advice and guidance on matters relating to the functions and features of corporate financial systems, work through the life cycle of small to large-scale corporate financial systems projects, manage the branch's financial resources, and carry out procurement activities. In addition, you will participate in corporate initiatives and liaise with counterparts in other departments, governments, and industry representatives.

  • University Degree preferably in information technology, finance, commerce, or business administration.
  • Considerable experience leading an operational IT unit, including leading, mentoring and coaching team members, managing capital and O&M budgets, and developing service delivery strategies.
  • Considerable progressive experience leading and managing small and large-scale IT projects and business process improvements from project feasibility studies to evaluation, preferably in a finance setting.
  • Experience working with financial information systems and applying proper governance and compliance is an asset.
  • Experience carrying out procurement activities for system projects and support, ideally in a government setting, is an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
