Under the supervision of the Payroll Manager, the main mandate of the Payroll Technician is to process time sheets and payroll, update payroll records, and respond to employee questions about payroll issue.

More specifically, the Payroll Technician must:

  • Process bi-weekly and monthly payrolls for Canada and subsidiaries, including new hires, terminations, changes in salary, commission, bonus, and other related issues.
  • Review and validate time sheets of all employees ensuring all information is complete and accurate.
  • Set up new hires in time tracking system and resolve any open tickets regarding non-billable pay codes.
  • Verify sub contractor status and rates and prepare report for accounts payable for payment processing.
  • Review PEO invoices and reconcile the amounts quoted against time sheets and rates. Prepare journal entry for accounts payable.
  • Ensure compliance with company policy, government legislation, and local tax laws. 
  • Reconcile vacation hours taken between the HR Information System HRIS and Payroll System 
  • Prepare and enter journal entries, accruals, and reconcile general ledger accounts related to payroll. 
  • Manage the payroll inbox and provide exceptional customer service regarding payroll inquiries. Employee may be assigned other responsibilities not included in this job description, if they have the required experience, are qualified and/or have adequate training.

Profile

  • College Degree in accounting, payroll, HR or administration
  • 3 years payroll experience preferred.
  • FRENCH SPEAKING IS AN ESSENTIAL PRE-REQUISITE FOR THIS ROLE. CANDIDATES WITHOUT IT, WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. English is required for the international aspect of the position.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, technically savvy.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.
  • PCP certification with National Payroll Institute an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge of payroll software
  • Bilingual - French / English
  • Problem solver, ability to prioritize tasks
