The Payroll & Accounting Analyst maintains the integrity and accuracy of the payroll data in the company's budgeting systems, supports the corporate and regional accounting teams in their payroll and benefits reporting, forecasting and variance analysis. This role also supports the Total Rewards team in payroll administration as well as compensation and benefits reporting and record management.

This role is located at our Empire Canada Head Office in Vaughan, ON.


What We Are Looking For:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting
  • At least 3 years of experience using enterprise-level budgeting, planning, and forecasting platforms
  • Experience in financial accounting, budget management or financial analysis
  • Working knowledge of payroll administration for Canada and US


Bonus If You Have These Skills:

  • Knowledge and working experience of HCM Payroll Systems (Dayforce preferred)
  • Knowledge of compensation and benefits program administration

What You'll Be Doing Each Day

  • Support the bi-weekly and hourly payroll administration including year-end support
  • Post the payroll G/L journal entries and prepare the monthly G/L account reconciliation for liability accounts (i.e., benefits, union dues, CPP & EI, WSIB)
  • Lead the annual budget and the quarterly forecast payroll update in the company budgeting system in collaboration with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to test updates to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Participate as a key member of process evaluation and improvement initiatives for payroll budgeting, forecasting, and reporting as well as systems integration projects
  • Support corporate and division accounting teams in variance to budget analyses
  • Assist Total Rewards with benefits administration and assist in compensation and benefit market survey participation and results reporting
