This job posting represents multiple positions within different ministries and at various locations across Ontario. What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Business and Finance Assistant you may have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, tasks, and initiatives. Some examples may include:

• Prepare, verify, process, and reconcile financial data
• Support staff in developing business proposals, reports, spreadsheets, and other business/financial documents
• Assist staff with transfer payment activities
• Conduct research and perform analysis (i.e. quantitative, qualitative, statistical).
• Prepare and organize correspondence, perform data entry and word processing functions, and create various documents
• Support audit, accounting, and risk management functions

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

You must meet all eligibility criteria by the first day of employment (contracts begin between May and July):

  1. Student Status: You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) OR you must have graduated within the past six months (for example, if you graduated in December, you can apply for and start a summer student position up until June of the following year).
  2. Age: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. There is no maximum age limit.
  3. Residency: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.
  4. Work Status: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN) for the full duration of your summer employment.

Please note this position is bilingual (English / French). Applicants must demonstrate oral and written proficiency in both languages to be eligible for this opportunity.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • You apply your written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports, document findings, record data, presentations, meeting minutes, etc.)
  • You apply your verbal and active listening communications skills to share your knowledge with staff and/or clients and to present your findings
  • You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • You apply your experience using Microsoft Office product suite, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; email and Internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents
  • You apply your knowledge and/or experience of accounting and budgeting to process, reconcile, calculate and verify financial information paying close attention to details

Analytical and Organizational Skills

  • You input data accurately and generate reports paying close attention to detail
  • You apply your evaluative and analyticial skills to conduct research, perform analysis (i.e. quantitative, qualitative, statistical) and synthesize and summarize informationYou apply your planning and organizational skills to collect, organize, review and verify information/data through review of files, reports, and other means
