What is the opportunity?

The primary focus of the Senior Manager US Tax Information Reporting is to provide tax advice, transaction support, health checks and reviews of policies and procedures to the US Information Reporting and Withholding function for Capital Markets and Wealth Management platforms in all RBC entities and branches operating outside of the United States.

What you will do?

Oversee, advise and monitor compliance of tax operations teams with respect to US tax information reporting and withholding function. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert of Chapter 3,4,61 of the US Internal Revenue Code for Capital Markets and other business platforms providing implementation support and on-going advice and guidance on US information reporting and withholding tax;
  • Coordinate Tax Information Reporting and withholding function of all RBC entities and branches in the US;
  • Design and execute internal withholding and information reporting internal reviews (Forms 1042, 1042-S, 1098, 1099 etc) . Act as a second line of defense to tax operations teams of various business lines, perform health checks of the information reporting function. Monitor compliance, identify gaps and provide recommendations.
  • Assist om the year-end tax information reporting compliance, help identify issues, process gaps. Escalate timely and recommend solutions.
  • Provide advice on information reporting and withholding implications for new products and services.
  • Review accuracy and completeness of operational policies and procedures to ensure adequate coverage from tax information reporting perspective.
  • Communicate legislative changes, analyze operational implications specific to a business platform and recommend implementation.
  • Assist in review, drafting and approving tax aspects of risk management papers dedicated to new business activity and products so that appropriate tax guidance is in place to guide activity or product design and implementation with the view to ensuring tax compliance, risk mitigation and tax efficiency.
  • Collaborate on efforts to create appropriate consolidation processes for legal entity reporting as required.
  • Review and identify tax information reporting and withholding implications on intercompany transactions.
  • Assist in assessing tax information reporting impact on new business initiatives (new product launch, transactional support, modification of scope for existing products)
  • Monitor and advise on Crypto Assets Reporting framework and CRS implementation.

What you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Advanced degree in tax, accounting, legal, economics or a similar field
  • Consulting experience in tax, accounting or regulatory reporting is preferred;
  • Interest in taxation of Capital Markets and Wealth management products and activities
  • Strong analytical / mathematics skills
  • Ability to summarize technical information and present in a simplified way to various audiences
  • Good drafting skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Eager to learn
  • Self-starter

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of US Tax Information Reporting rules is preferred
  • Knowledge of Qualified Intermediary regime is a preferred
  • Knowledge of banking products is a plus
