The Senior Manager reports to a Director while operating in a team-based environment within Business Banking Credit Risk (BBCR). The role supports BBCR's strategic vision by ensuring its governance framework aligns with global regulatory requirements and risk management best practices. The Senior Manager is responsible for monitoring regulatory developments, assessing their impact, and supporting compliance strategies that enhance risk governance. The role provides effective challenge, identify gaps and opportunities for improvement, drives a strong risk culture, and collaborates across GRM, BBCR, and the Bank to break down silos while ensuring regulatory expectations are met.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Contributes to a risk-aware culture that prioritizes strong governance, regulatory compliance, and proactive risk management across Business Banking Credit Risk, fostering collaboration and leveraging broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Conducts an in-depth regulatory review of policy governance in Business Banking Credit Risk across all business lines to identify gaps and potential gaps. Monitors and interprets evolving regulatory landscapes to ensure the bank is proactively aligned with local/global regulations.
  • Partners with all relevant stakeholders including risk management teams, legal, and compliance to assess the impact of new regulations and ensures timely implementation of necessary changes.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge and understanding of applicable regulations related to BBCR across relevant jurisdictions.
  • Establish a policy governance framework to ensure policies are reviewed, updated, established with appropriate oversight and in adherence the governance framework and schedule.
  • Partners with policy owners to ensure the development and implementation of policies and procedures to meet regulatory obligations.
  • Oversees governance processes to ensure BBCR remains aligned with regulatory requirements and evolving risk management frameworks.
  • Identifies, raises, and tracks issues, liaising with non-compliant teams to develop and implement action plans for resolution.
  • Develops and delivers regulatory risk assessments, strategic insights, and reports to senior management and key partners and stakeholders, providing recommendations to enhance policy governance and regulatory alignment.
  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite, risk culture and strategic priorities should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • Post-Secondary Education completed, preferably in Finance, Business Administration, or related experience
  • 3+ years of experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, and business banking credit risk.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory requirements specific to Business Banking Credit Risk, including capital adequacy, risk governance, and credit risk management regulations issued by key regulatory bodies such as OSFI, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Federal Reserve, the European Banking Authority (EBA), and the Basel framework is preferred.
  • Expertise in governance, regulatory compliance, and policy oversight, with experience in designing and implementing regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional knowledge of the Bank's policies, procedures, and audit disciplines, as well its business lines and operations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at various levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to details.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and conflict resolutions skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SharePoint), data analysis tools (e.g. PowerBI), policy analysis tools (e.g. OpenPages, LexisNexis, ClauseMatch) and experience with workflow and project management tools
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced, agile environment, ensuring deadlines and regulatory expectations are met.
  • Spanish or French would be an asset
