Job Summary

The Director, Cards Credit Strategy will lead a team of credit strategists (Senior Managers and Managers) to optimize account management underwriting policies for RBC's retail credit card portfolio, the largest portfolio in Canada. The position is responsible to drive portfolio growth within risk appetite through developing innovative credit strategies and effectively partnering with stakeholders across product and risk management teams.

What is the opportunity?

As part of the Group Risk Management team, the Director, Cards Credit Strategy will be primarily responsible for increasing shareholder value by growing a multi-billion dollar credit card portfolio through the design and management of effective credit strategies for existing retail credit card accounts. Key strategies include proactive and reactive line management, authorization strategies, and low rate lending (installments and balance transfers).

What will you do?

  • Support the Retail Cards business targets for balance growth, purchase volume growth, and NIBT, while ensuring appropriate risk mitigation strategies are in place and the overall credit quality of the portfolio is maintained.
  • Lead a team to develop and manage credit strategy, monitor strategy performance and forecast financial performance through statistical modeling, research, innovation and leading edge tools and practices.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • Expert knowledge of underwriting principles and risk management techniques including credit scoring models and their application in portfolio management
  • Proven experience leading a team of skilled professionals to deliver aggressive targets in a highly technical environment
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in the financial services industry, with a complete understanding of risk, finance and the issues specific to credit granting in a credit card environment

Nice-to-Have:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-based strategic decisions
  • High degree of organization and ability to multitask and shift priorities
  • University degree in a quantitative field of study (e.g., statistics, economics, business) to demonstrate ability for critical thinking & numerical analytics
