The Role:

Our dynamic team of dedicated scientists—comprising biologists, ecologists, and skilled technicians—specializes in a range of critical areas including water resources, environmental impact assessment, fisheries, terrestrial inventories, environmental inspection, and management. The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:

  • 3+ years experience in field biology, with emphasis on ecosystems of Ontario;
  • A Bachelor or Masters degree in Biology, Ecology, or related discipline;
  • Experience supporting Environmental Assessments for private, municipal, provincial, and federal projects;
  • Familiar with field survey protocols for birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, vascular plants and/or fish;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to identify and delineate habitat types for fish/birds/other wildlife/vascular plants;
  • Experience in the collection, analysis and reporting of field data following established protocol. Having experience with ArcGIS and/or FieldMaps would be considered an asset;
  • Familiar with environmental inspection procedures during construction, including erosion and sediment control;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc;
  • Previous consulting experience would be considered an asset; and
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle and willingness to travel and work outdoors and remote locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out biological field investigations including breeding bird surveys, botanical inventories, Ecological Land Classification, wildlife surveys (reptiles, amphibians, mammals, etc.), targeted species at risk surveys, fisheries assessments and wetland delineation following established protocols;
  • Carrying out field studies, collecting/entering/analyzing data, and writing technical memos / reports;
  • Performing a variety of field and office tasks requiring the application of standard scientific principles and fundamental theories;
  • Conducting background information searches including literature reviews, database reviews, and agency consultation to obtain environmental data;
  • Acquiring environmental permits/approvals and assisting in the development of impact migrations and protection measures in accordance with environmental legislation and policy;
  • Providing environmental site inspections and Contract Administration support at active construction sites. Preparing, memos, reports and proposals;
  • Assisting in the development of proposals, and delivering excellent service to new and existing clients;
  • Attending training courses, seminars, and field training sessions as required to gain certifications; and
  • Travel to sites within Ontario to conduct field surveys as required.
