Job Description

Under the direction of the Manager, Revenue, the Property Tax & Revenue Administrator is responsible for a wide variety of duties related to the collection and processing of property taxes and revenue including collection of residential, commercial and industrial property taxes, and water, sewer and stormwater, etc. revenues; issuing collection notices; coordinating property tax sales; issuing tax certificates; coordinating charges added to tax bills; responding to tax enquiries; processing tax adjustments; researching and preparing tax apportionments.

Job Requirements
  1. Certificate of completion of the Municipal Tax Administration Program (MTAP) with demonstrated experience in a municipal property tax environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Demonstrated working knowledge of the Municipal Tax Sales process and other related areas of Provincial legislation affecting property assessment and taxation including the Municipal Act, Assessment Act and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
  3. Good working knowledge of municipal tax accounting, database applications and property tax billing software applications.
  4. Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting procedures (i.e. accounts payable, account receivable, collection technique strategies), and/or municipal accounting software packages.
  5. Strong communication skills and ability to deal courteously and effectively with taxpayers, lawyers, assessment office, financial institutions, staff and other agencies.
  6. Excellent customer service orientation with a focus on ensuring effective services; maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel Outlook) and spreadsheet applications.
  8. Demonstrated solid organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills. Must be detail oriented individual.
  9. Ability to work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  10. Due to the responsibilities of this position a Police Information Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
