Sr. Payroll Associate

Provide Canadian expertise and oversight to Payroll & Time Management processes, which include actively process of post payroll actions as well as critical year-end activities.

Bayer is committed to a flexible hybrid working environment. This is a 8 month contract position based out of Mississauga, Ontario.

What you will do:

  • Post payroll related entries and 3rd party remittances
  • Issue ROEs as per Service Canada
  • Oversee receivables and generate employee claim documentation including net repayment calculations
  • Provide Finance with monthly reports related to payroll activities
  • Ownership of payroll funding activities with treasury and the wire balancing and transmissions for payroll tax payments
  • Produce employee tax forms (T4, T2200, T4A, RL1), which includes the overseeing of all preparation and testing of this process
  • File year-end tax returns with the local Canadian agencies for Tax, Workers Comp and Provisional Health
  • Responsible for all year-end activities for payroll tax
  • Actively participate/engage with the National Payroll Institute to maintain overall understanding of payroll related legislations and implement changes accordingly
  • Provide oversight and support for Canadian system testing including upgrades and critical year-end activities
  • Responsible for analysis on opportunities to improve processes with industry best practices and execution of approved recommendations
  • Develop and maintain SOPs related to payroll processes related to this position
  • Accountability for creating, managing, and tracking HR Demands applicable to payroll and tax requirements such as wage type creation and other system updates
  • Respond to employee payroll inquires
  • Understand the intricacies of Time Management and support related employee inquires
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned or required

Who you are:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with 5+ years Payroll, Finance, and/or Accounting experience
  • Knowledge of key HR processes and policies
  • Knowledge of Federal and Provincial payroll tax and labour regulations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information and adhere to data privacy and internal compliance requirements
  • Strong organizations skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure and maintain a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Initiative to work independently, accurately meet deadlines, and the drive to identify and execute on process improvements
  • Ability to analyze data, identify root-cause of issues and detail findings, and bring forward recommendations
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
