What you will do

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, the Finance Manager oversees finance staff and the day-to-day financial operations, such as bookkeeping and accounting of Det'on Cho Management LP and its subsidiaries. This role ensures the accurate recording of all financial data and financial information through monthly and quarterly financial reports to the Vice President of Finance as required.

A Day in the Life

Reporting to the VP of Finance, your job duties include:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team
  • Manage accounts payable: coding, processing, cheque preparation, and timely payments
  • Supervise the processing company's bi-weekly payroll and submissions
  • Processing year-end Tax reports.
  • Ensure adherence to all payroll procedures and processes and compliance with legislations such as Employment Standards, Canada Customs and Revenue Agency and Income Tax Act & Regulations.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Review expense claims and general payables for completeness, accuracy, and coding
  • Manage financial systems and administrative activities in accordance with relevant financial standards and Det'on Cho Management LP. policies and procedures
  • Coordinate development of the budget and the Chart of Accounts for approval by the VPF
  • Assist in preparing financial statements and variance reports
  • Verify expenditure documents, including credit card statements, Banks, General Ledger, accounts every month
  • Administer month-end closure checklist for all accounting functions
  • Participate in the external audit process
  • Perform other related duties assigned

What You Bring

The incumbent would normally be expected to have gained the required competencies through completion of a Degree in Finance, Commerce or a related discipline and/or Level 4 of a recognized accounting program with a minimum of five years of related experience. Equivalencies would be considered.

  • Proven financial management skills, including the ability to prepare budgets, Charts of Accounts and financial reports, including financial statements and variance reports
  • Knowledge of financial management and accounting processes, including Generally Accepted Accounting principles
  • Knowledge of the accounting cycle accounts payable and receivable and payroll.
  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work as a member of a team
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Familiarity with Yellowknives Dene language, culture and way of life is an asset.
  • Knowledge in the use of Accounting Software and familiarity with payroll software.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
