Overview:
The Senior Accountant and Billing Lead will be a member of the finance team for a subsidiary of Emera supporting the financial activities in the US and Canada. This position will report to the Senior Manager, Finance.
This is a unique opportunity that will provide an opportunity to support the finance activities of a small international operating company while working under the umbrella of a TSX listed public company.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting, financial reporting and billing for the US and Canada, which includes, but is not limited to:
- Completing the month end close process; review and approve journal entries, prepare monthly results package for management.
- Maintaining general ledger, including detailed customer account reconciliations and analysis.
- Ensuring proper financial controls are in the place for the accounting and billing processes.
- Preparing financial statements including originations, derecognitions, revenue and asset allocations, and analyzing the financial results.
- Overseeing all aspects of billing ensuring accuracy for refunds, account closures, monthly bills posted transactions.
- Supervising and process tenant change requests, equipment transfer requests, and customer buyouts.
- Assisting internal and external auditors during required audits including federal, state, and provincial regulators.
- Supporting tax filings as needed.
- Collaborating with other Emera departments to provide financial information.
- Preparing other ad hoc analysis and reports as required.
- Oversee a billing team (two to three employees).

Relevant Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration or commerce and have completed, or working toward completing, an accounting designation (CPA).
- Minimum of 3 years of financial accounting experience.
- Experience with financial reporting systems (e.g. QuickBooks for financials, Bluesnap for billing plus banking applications) and Excel.
- Meticulous and possesses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Have a solid business acumen, customer focused and is innovative, with the ability to identify and implement improved processes.
- Knowledge of US GAAP.
