The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Interprofessional Practice & Learning, the Medical Laboratory Technologist C (MLT-C) is responsible (in collaboration with key partnerships) for the assessment, implementation, planning, evaluation, and supportive application of existing and new clinical knowledge and the translation of knowledge to practice. The prime focus of the MLT-C is to coordinate, support, maintain and deliver competency based interprofessional educational curriculum in partnership with curriculum leads (Departments/Divisions of Faculty of Medicine, Nurse Educators, other Clinical Educators) via classroom, procedural skill/task training, simulation learning, clinical learning, and/or online learning strategies, while advancing practice. The MLT-C practices according to the Registered Health Professionals Network Act, and in accordance with profession specific acts/legislation, their professional regulatory body and in accordance with Standards of Practice.

The MLT-C demonstrates competency in practice, program design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation of education, leadership, and professional practice. They exhibit the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours that align with the Interprofessional Practice and Learning Framework. This framework is grounded in theories of adult and concept-based learning, practice development, fundamentals of care and collaborative learning and practice.

Please note this position requires periodic travel to facilities within Nova Scotia. A valid driver's license and access to transportation is required.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate from an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology required
  • Three years' related experience in Transfusion Science or Chemistry required
  • Current registration with CSMLS and NSCMLT required
  • Must have experience in all five disciplines of MLT role (these include: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Histotechnology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Science)
  • Certification in Simulation Specialist or Simulation Educator programs (i.e., CHSOS, CHSE, SLIIC) an asset
  • Leadership Development Education an asset
  • Adult Education Program an asset
  • Simulation Education Program an asset
  • Must be able to recognize abnormal situations and respond appropriately
  • In depth knowledge and experience with Cerner LIS is essential
  • Previous experience with Blood Collection is preferred
  • Must have demonstrated strong customer service skills; leadership skills; excellent organization and technical skills; as well as good decision-making skills
  • Experience with Microsoft office Excel an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Long Assignment Full-Time (75 hours biweekly)

Compensation and Benefits

$34.40 - $41.76 hourly
$67,072 - $81,425 annually
