Job Summary

Reporting to the Sector Controller, the Accounting Specialist will provide support for all aspects of the accounting cycle following best practices and principles. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate accounting records, assisting with daily accounting duties, and providing prompt, courteous responses to inquiries from stakeholders. The ideal candidate should be committed to providing efficient reliable insight to accounting department members, other departments, and external parties. They should be trustworthy, thorough, and courteous with excellent time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Complete reports for monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
  • Provide financial analysis for various aspects of the business
  • Complete reconciliations for Internal Compliance requirements
  • Execute monthly journal entries
  • Prepare and analyze weekly and monthly production results
  • Assist with year-end inventory count
  • Play a key role in achieving departmental goals through collaborative efforts among team members
  • Other duties as assigned

Technical Requirements

  • Minimum post-secondary education in the accounting field (university degree or community college diploma with a concentration in accounting, or equivalent)
  • Willingness to pursue a CPA designation
  • 1-3 years of experience in the accounting field would be considered an asset

Business Requirements

  • A sense of urgency and ability to balance priorities without sacrificing deadlines
  • Focus on detail and accuracy with the ability to handle changing priorities in a deadline driven environment
  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel is required
  • Exposure to JD Edwards One World would be considered an asset

Cultural Requirements

  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with management and peers
  • Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
