Coulson Aviation operates with a fleet of large aerial firefighting aircraft consisting of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. With our fleet, we can run rapid aerial fire suppression, including initial attack and extended attack protocols.

Coulson Aviation is a part of the Coulson Group of companies. We are a growing organization that has been in business for 65 years.

Due to our company growth and expanding footprint, we are looking to add a Tax Manager to our team in Port Alberni, BC, Canada.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

We are looking for a Tax Manager that will be responsible for overseeing and managing tax compliance and planning within our organization. This role involves developing tax strategies, ensuring compliance with tax laws, and minimizing tax liabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement global tax strategies to optimize the company's tax and cash position across its operational entities, assess the impact of acquisitions and expansion plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all international, federal, state, provincial, and local tax laws, filing deadlines and regulations, including documentation of tax positions taken and required disclosures.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, provincial and location tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review of transfer pricing policies and reporting.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions to support the Company's external financial statement including drafting of all related tax disclosures and tax presentation.
  • Manage tax audits and negotiations with government agencies.
  • Conduct research on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify tax-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare and present tax reports to senior management, including tax provisions and disclosures.
  • Provide tax guidance and support to business units, senior management and ownership.
  • Collaboration, as required, with the CFO on tax planning matters.
  • Work closely with external tax advisors initially to learn past practices and internalize tax planning knowledge.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with tax authorities and external tax advisors.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a recognized accounting designation or a law degree.
  • In depth knowledge of taxation, through the completion of additional specialized education in Canadian taxation and/or experience working in a related taxation role.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax compliance and planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and leadership abilities, proficiency in tax software and financial reporting systems.
  • Ability to think strategically and provide actionable insights.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to transparency.

BENEFITS:

  • Salary range of $150,000 to $170,000 depending on experience.
  • Company paid benefits and a 5% matching pension plan.
