This position works in Accounting. This is accounting and clerical work of considerable complexity which requires good knowledge of all departmental accounting and clerical operations in the Finance Department. The incumbent is responsible for the planning and review of work of junior accounting clerks in purchasing order invoices. The work also involves processing and reviewing accounts receivable, other accounts payable, and general accounting transactions; and preparing and maintaining a variety of files and records. The incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement, problem solving, and recommendation of improvements to existing processes and procedures; assists in planning and assigning the work of accounting staff; prepares journal entries, account reconciliations, audit working papers, statutory, and financial reports; establishes and maintains liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts and purchasing order vendors. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by the completion of the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Preparatory Non-Core Courses and some of the Core Courses or post- secondary course equivalencies that are required for entry in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP), plus sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Considerable knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations applicable to departmental accounting operations, of financial accounting, and of double entry bookkeeping methods and procedures. Ability to maintain sustained attention to detail.
