At SMS Equipment, our Financial Analysts are responsible for a variety of accounting activities following established principles, along with providing financial analysis and support across business operations. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys working with systems, has strong analytical skills and is great with communication. This role is in Acheson, AB.

The annual salary for this role is $58,000 - $63,000.

This position offers a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analysis and Reconciliation of Accounts - Reconcile complex balance sheet accounts, bank, credit card and GL account reconciliations. Analyzes, investigates and summarizes account transactions and balances. Prepares adjusting journal entries and monthly standard entries. Analysis and interprets operating results, ensures quality of data in information reporting and analyzes operational performance to plan and interpret major variances from budget with senior management and operations. Provide analytical support to operations. Actively supports year end audit and annual budget.

  • Fixed Asset Control and Management - Ensures assets are capitalized and disposed of according to company policy while ensuring all required records are maintained. Monthly posting and reconciliation of depreciation. Prepares monthly continuity schedule and coordinates annual reset count.

  • Direct and indirect tax legislation - Monthly analysis, reconciliation and reporting of GST / PST to tax authorities and provincial environmental charges. Ensures quality of data provided to tax authorities and is the key contact for providing sample support and any files requested for provincial tax audits and compliance audits.

  • Support IT team - Participate in user acceptance testing in eXtend and provides batch error handling. Participate on project teams to identify, analyze, document business policy and process opportunities such as policies, process mapping, SOP and work instructions.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree or a diploma in a related field and have a minimum of 2 years accounting experience. A combination of education and experience may also be considered. Other requirements include:

  • Intermediate Excel skills, including the ability to use VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
  • Clear understanding of the P&L & Balance Sheet.
  • Proven ability to prioritize workload and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented with a keen willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving ability.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate with all levels of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience with an ERP system would be considered an asset
  • Working towards a CPA would be considered beneficial.
